Andrew and his crew are great to work with. They showed up when they said they would, were very courteous and went over all work to be done before proceeding. Two large trees needed pruning and the crew worked meticulously selecting the branches to be cut. They were considerate of the neighbors and cleaned up all debris before leaving. They did great work at a reasonable price. I highly recommend them as arborists.

What Equipment Do I Need for Gutter Cleaning?

Gutters and downspouts can be cleaned with a wide variety of equipment, depending on the size and shape of the gutter. Here are some basics you’ll need:

  • Gutter cleaner
  • Ladder
  • Rags or a trash bag
  • Screwdriver
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Straw
  • Tape measure
  • Cleaning solution (see below)

Gutters can be cleaned using various types of cleaners and solutions. Here are some popular ones:

  • Broom or mop: Use this if the gutters are oversized and have a smooth surface. Just be sure to wet the bristles first.
  • Rags: Wet these, fold them in half and place them over the gutter. Push down firmly until the rag is covered in water. Clean up with a hose afterward.
  • Clothesline: If the gutters are small or have a corrugated surface, use a clothesline instead. Cut two pieces of the line equal in length, tie one piece around each post above the gutter, and use the other piece to pull down on the first one.
  • Household cleaning products

Frequently Asked Questions About Gutter Cleaning

What are the advantages of hiring a professional gutter cleaning service?

Hiring a professional gutter cleaning service can be an excellent decision for many reasons. Below are just a few of the advantages of hiring a professional:

  • The professionals will have the correct tools and equipment to clean your gutters properly. This means less damage to your roof, fascia, and trimming of tree branches.
  • They will be able to get into difficult-to-reach areas and remove all the debris, so it doesn’t build up over time. This can save you time and money in the long run by preventing costly repairs.
  • They will have a detailed knowledge of all the different types of gutters and how to clean them properly. This means they can recommend the best solution for your specific situation.

Are there any specific guidelines for gutter cleaning?

Gutter cleaning is a simple and effective way to keep your home clean and healthy. However, there are no definitive rules, so it is up to the individual cleaner to determine the most appropriate methods for their specific environment and situation.

The following are some general guidelines that should be followed when cleaning gutters:

  • Use a ladder if possible: Gutter cleaning can be done from the ground level, but using a ladder is often more accessible and efficient. Ladders also allow access to areas that would be difficult or impossible to reach using other methods.
  • Clean both sides of the gutter: Gutter cleaners often focus their efforts on one side of the gutter because debris tends to accumulate more heavily on this side. Cleaning both sides of the gutter will help to prevent clogged gutters and improve drainage.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals: Many gardeners swear by using vinegar or lemon juice as a gutter-cleaning-solution, but these chemicals can be harmful if not used correctly. It is essential to read labels carefully before using any cleaning solution, and always wear gloves and eye protection when working with chemicals.
